Text Analysis with WordCounter – Applying the IPO Principle

In this exercise you will apply your understanding of the IPO principle (Input – Processing – Output). This principle structures information processing into three phases. Use this structure to understand how the text analysis on the WordCounter website works.

Open wordcounter.net and keep the page open throughout the exercise.

Phase 1: Eingabe

Phase 2: Verarbeitung

Phase 2: Processing

Observe how the website analyses your text. Try to identify the internal processes that lead to the output.

Guiding Questions:

• How might the processing work internally? Describe the steps between input and output.
• What exactly is being counted or analysed?

Phase 3: Ausgabe

Schauen Sie sich die Ergebnisse der Textanalyse an, die die Webseite liefert.

Leitfragen:

• In welcher Form ist die Ausgabe dargestellt (Text, Zahl, Grafik, …)?
• Welche Informationen werden ausgegeben? Sind alle Ausgaben direkt aus Ihrer Eingabe ableitbar?

Phase 3: Output

Look at the results of the text analysis provided by the website.

Guiding Questions:

• In what form is the output presented (text, number, graphic, …)?
• What information is displayed? Can all outputs be directly derived from your input?

Phase 4: Visualisierung & Padlet
